As I struggled with the impending Lenten season, I felt my heart was cold...From Winter Blossoms Wisdom
Heart of cold, thou shallow grave
Where it is always winter
And never Christmas, lacking joy
Which makes the frost to splinter
The days of old were broken
Scattered like the wheat
Long and lost it feels now, gone,
The life that brings the beat
Deep inside, where wounds did lie
Sharp shards grew and grew
Jagged edges, counting many
Swollen, like fresh and new
Cutting more and healing not
The festered, they did rot
So it died, or so it seemed
Though, raging, was a plot
Pretentiously boasting, high on its horse
Upon its pedestal great
All dwindling there is bitterness,
Lashings of malice and hate
Endless torment, thrust upon
That cold heart deep inside
Until the moment dark and dim
When hope begins taking stride
One beat, then two, slowly, steady,
The frost melts to the floor
The clashing of the dark and light
The light overtaking more
Glimpse of gladness, small but strong
Wrestles life with death
The struggle goes with high and low
Each measure of its breath
Sky reveals a storm which brews
A dance of battling forces
In the cavern drums a song
Where life, through its vein, courses
Flee thou darkness, go now death
You are no longer welcome
Destruction loosed, wildly, freely
Reared here, your head, not seldom
Awake and rise ye ancient life,
You wisdom, wrought of old
Give 'way now what is rightly yours
For he who betrayed and sold
O tree of life, spring up once more
To mend the dead and broken
Extend thy branch, thou well of grace
With healing words, gently spoken
Hagia Sophia, Thou
Beauty and oasis
Pour on my head and in my heart
Thy joy, Thy grace, Thy basis
With Your light and cleansing fire
Burn 'way my darkened life
Purify me, body, soul
Kill the cancer with your knife
And chasing on dark shadows from
Each crevice, now laid bare
Sing to me the song of love
Truly plant its seed in there
Give it water, give it light
For it to grow and blossom
So it may bear the fruit of life,
Reflect Thy grandeur, awesome
From the grave we see what comes
When hope was lost and gone
A soul rebirthed has sprung to sky
So eternal the heart lives on
Where it is always winter
And never Christmas, lacking joy
Which makes the frost to splinter
The days of old were broken
Scattered like the wheat
Long and lost it feels now, gone,
